Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, but any day is a good day to let the loved ones in your life know how much you care for them. No matter who is on your list, a handmade Valentine gift made with thought and care is always appreciated. The usual gifts of dinner out, candy, or flowers are the tried-and-true gifts most people are used to giving on Valentine’s Day, but we offer some fun and innovative ideas below of gifts that can make the day memorable and magical.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries Valentine Gift
Chocolate-covered strawberries are easy to make and a great way to say I love you to your spouse, partner, children, or friends. It’s best to buy larger strawberries with the stems since they make for easier dipping. Pick your favorite chocolate, be it semi-sweet, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate.
Start by washing your strawberries and making sure they are super dry because melted chocolate won’t stick to wet strawberries. It takes approximately one large bag of chocolate chips when melted to cover about 2 pounds of strawberries. When melting the chocolate, be careful not to boil or burn the chocolate as the consistency and taste will change. It’s easy to melt the chocolate in 30-second bursts in your microwave until it’s melted. Once your strawberries are dry and the chocolate is melted, line a cookie sheet with parchment paper, and start dipping the strawberries. Once you have dipped all the strawberries be sure to chill for at least 15-20 minutes to set the chocolate.
A List of Your Valentine’s Wonderful Traits
This is a great gift for anyone on your gift list for Valentine’s Day. I don’t think there is anyone who doesn’t enjoy being told about their wonderful traits any day of the year. This is a wonderful list for people to read when the times are tough, coping with loss in their life, or taking on challenging tasks. I made a list somewhat like this for my dad years ago that he still treasures today. My list listed all the traits that I inherited from him and what I learned from him over the years. The list that was inside his Father’s Day card that he still treasures today. Though it might seem like a small gift, it’s a gift that can have a lasting and wonderful impact on the person who receives it.
Remembering the Good Times Valentine Gift
This is a wonderful list to put together for anyone on your gift list for Valentine’s Day about remembering the good times you have shared. Be creative with this list and include some of the funny things that have happened that you remember with the person on your gift list. If you can include pictures, so much the better, but not necessary. You can create this gift as a list, letter, photo collage, or photo album, whatever you think your gift recipient would enjoy the most.
This is a great gift for an older person on your gift list to let them remember some of the great times you have shared and how much you appreciate them. Or a wonderful gift for someone you love who has moved a distance away so you don’t see them in person as much anymore and contact is now a phone call or Zoom call. Sometimes the smallest gesture can be both magical and memorable in its impact when done with a lot of heart!
Heart Magnets
These heart magnets are so easy to make and a fun project to do with children. Using air-dry clay, you can fashion your own hearts or use a cookie cutter to cut our uniform hearts and let them dry. Then you can paint them with acrylic paint and add glitter or words, whatever your artistic taste feels led to create. Self-sticking magnets are available online or at any craft store. When in doubt use a glue gun to attach the magnets to the hearts so they are sturdy and can last a long time.
Valentine Wine Glasses
Making your spouse, partner, or friends these Valentine-inspired wine glasses is a lot of fun and a great way to say I love you. Supplies you will need: buy a few sheets of your favorite heart stickers, choose which wine glasses you want to decorate, buy some Mod Podge, and have household vinegar on hand. Wash your wine glasses and make sure they are dry. I wear disposable gloves so I don’t get a trace of oil from my fingers on the wine glasses.
- Wipe down the wine glasses with household vinegar and let dry.
- The vinegar gets any trace of residue or oil off the glasses so your stickers stick well to the glass.
- Pick out which stickers you wish to have on your glasses and affix them.
- Use a coating of Mod Podge to set the stickers and let the wine glasses air dry following the directions on the Mod Podge container.
Memory Photo Album or Thumb Drive
Many times, we have photos our loved ones don’t have of memorable moments through the years. A memory photo album or thumb drive is a great way to share memories and show the people we love how much they mean to us. There are so many online sources for putting great albums together artistically so this is not only a fun creative project but a treasured gift that will keep giving over the years to the person you love.
Reasons I Love You Jar
Sharing with the person you love why you love them is a great way to say I love you that keeps giving. We all can use a pick me up from time to time and what better than a jar you can dip into and pull out a note saying why a person loves you. Be sure to share both the serious reasons you love a person and also some of the humorous reasons you love them. Use your creativity and decorate the jar much like we described above with the wine glasses to make it a magical and memorable gift that will keep giving through the years.
