December 14, 2020Inexpensive Ideas to Refresh Your Home Interior
February 17, 2021Let’s Refresh Your Home’s Interior
Most of us have been spending more time inside this last year than we ever have before because of the COVID-19 outbreak. Even though we may love our home staring at the same walls month after month can feel a tad depressing at times. We encourage people to get outdoors as much as possible not only for soaking up vitamin D but also to breathe in some fresh air and get some exercise, all of which are good to lift spirits and can help your health!
Refreshing your home’s interior not only gives you a fun task to undertake but also leaves you with a sense of accomplishment, all good for your mood. The type of quick interior updates we will talk about today are neither costly nor take much time, but are definitely high on the fun factor! So let’s get creative and have some fun with updating your home’s interior look!
Quick Home Interior Lighting Ideas
There are so many quick lighting updates you can do to a room without needing an electrician to do them. In the photo above you see outdoor lights that we have all seen in Costco to Amazon, and even your local hardware store has these in stock because they are so versatile. String these lights along a wall adds subtle lighting to any room–love this idea for bedrooms, bathrooms, and even living rooms. It brings in subtle and subdued lighting to a room that adds extra light and gives a dreamy mood to any room.
Also, there are so many mini lights in so many configurations these days to chose from, from stars to oblong lights, half-moons to fairy lights–your imagination can have a field day! Mini-lights come in all sorts of colors and also in sheets, called window curtain lights that can be hung between your drapes to cover a window instead of a window shade or on top of a window shade.
Accent Pillows Are a Quick Interior Change
Accent pillows are such a quick interior fix for any room. Accent pillows are a quick way to infuse a quick shot of color into any room and change the mood quickly. There are so many choices in sizes, textures, shapes, and more to accent a sofa, bed, or window seat. Much like accent pillows, changing out the fabric on dining room chairs can totally transform your dining room and is pretty easy to do. Bringing in new colors into a room through accent pillows or chair covers are sometimes just the update that really refreshes a room and gives it a new spark.
Changing Out Draperies & Curtains for A New Look
Draperies and curtains take up a lot of wall space in most homes. Changing out the color and look of your draperies or curtains can have one of the largest impacts on refreshing the look of any room. Changing out curtains in a bathroom or kitchen is less expensive than changing out drapes and a great place to start and can usually be done by yourself without needing extra help. You can update the look of your current draperies by adding a swag over the upper portion of the drapes or new tiebacks in an accent color. All of these ideas are looking for ways to bring in a new color and a new feel to a room within a budget for maximum impact.
Indoor Plants Bring the Outdoors In
Indoor houseplants can add a splash of color to any room, plus they are a wonderful way of bringing the outdoors inside. From a simple display of African violets on your kitchen windowsill to a 6-foot fichus tree, you can get as simple or as elaborate as you wish. Succulents are a good choice if you want low maintenance plants that don’t take much upkeep. Some of the hardiest houseplants that are easiest to grow and maintain plants are aloe vera, cast iron plant, Chinese evergreen, snake plant, Christmas cactus, dieffenbachia, jade plant, lucky bamboo, peace lily, prayer plant, and the spider plant.
Try A New Bedspread
Usually, the focal point of a bedroom is your bed and a great way to change the mood or look of your bedroom quickly is changing out your bedspread and maybe the pillow shams or pillows. Changing our bedspreads seasonally gives you variety in your bedroom and changes up the mood with the season, but if you have stayed with the same bedspread for years making the change to a new bedspread can really give your bedroom decor a lift. Try bringing in different colors or accent colors with the choice of your new bedspread and also accent pillows on your bed can be another way to change up the look of your bedroom and give it a renewed look.
Try New Towels or Bathroom Accessories
Something as simple as changing towels and rugs in your bathroom can add a whole new look to your bathroom. We have also found that adding new bathroom accessories and containers to your bathroom can be a storage boon and also provide a change-up in your bathroom decor. We just replaced the faucet in our bathroom for a high profile faucet and it’s pretty amazing how it changed the whole look of the bathroom and cost so little. Also, things like wicker baskets, a crystal dispenser for your favorite cream, or I put my mother’s crystal antique vinegar containers on my bathroom windowsill where they can catch the sunlight and send a glow all over our bathroom. Changing small details can make such a difference in the look of a room.
What A Difference Wall Art Can Make
The easiest way to change the look of a room is with wall art or beautiful mirrors. I know just before the holidays I switched out some wall art in the living room and my family noticed it right away, it was so funny. So just a small change with artwork or mirrors can have a large impact on the look and mood of a room. Mirrors are great, and picking up an antique frame and then having a mirror installed in it really gives you a showpiece that can extend the size of a room and be beautiful at the same time.
