Creatively celebrating Valentine’s Day can seem overwhelming at times. Life moves at such a fast pace these days, and creativity can take a back seat when the to-do list is filled. Whether you have a special someone in your life, celebrate Galentine’s Day with friends, or want to show your kids some extra love, we have you covered for valentine’s Day events and gifts.
Many of the creative Valentine’s Day ideas are simple, fun, and many don’t require a large investment of time or money. We did throw in a couple of higher-priced ideas for people celebrating Valentine’s Day in a bigger way. Keep in mind that it’s the thought that counts, and presentation is everything.
Celebrating Valentine’s Day with Kids
Showing our children some extra love and appreciation on Valentine’s Day is a great way of showing how much we love them. We have several kid-friendly Valentine’s Day ideas:
- Howarth Park: Howarth Park has a miniature train, carousel, and pony rides on some days for younger kids.
- Sonoma Coast: Fly kites, have a beach picnic, or have a fish lunch at the Boat House.
- Armstrong Redwoods: Have a family picnic or hike through the giant redwoods.
- Safari West: A pricier option, but so much fun for kids of all ages to see giraffes, zebras, and other animals in the wild.
- Children’s Museum of Sonoma County: A great place for hands-on learning.
- Train Town: Ride a miniature railroad through the park and have a picnic.
- Peanuts Museum: Explore the world of Charlie Brown and friends.
- City Garden Doughnuts: Grab a gastronomic delight for kids of all ages with their amazing doughnuts.
- DIY Crafts: Make Valentine’s Day cards, make a heart-shaped pizza, or bake Valentine’s Day cookies at home.
Creative Valentine’s Day Fun for Adults
There are so many activities in Sonoma County for Valentine’s Day for adults. Sonoma County is considered a romantic destination in the United States, so our county makes an extra effort to provide some great Valentine’s Day activities for visitors and locals alike. Some of these are a couple of hours, and others are all-day experiences:
Romantic & Relaxing:
- Wine & Dine: Sonoma County has so much to offer from sunset tastings to winemaker dinners, and also special tasting menus over Valentine’s Day at Benovia, Anaba, Jordan or Dawn Ranch. Plus, there are many farm-to-table meals at local restaurants such as the Spoonbar or Carneros Ranch.
- Romantic Strolls: Wander around Sonoma Plaza or take in the panoramic view from Helen Putnam Regional Park.
- Pampering: Indulge in a couple’s massage or medical spa treatment at one of the spas in Sonoma County.
Creative & Fun:
- Learn Something New: Take a workshop together. You can learn to make bouquets at Front Porch Farm, paint at ArtXcursion, or take a pizza-making class at Psychic Pizza in Sebastopol. There are also a number of classes at the new shop, Gather in Sebastopol that would be fun to do with girlfriends.
- Music: Catch a show at any of the numerous locations in Sonoma County, from the Mystic Theatre to the Luther Burbank Center. There are also unconditional dances at many locations in Sonoma County.

It gives you and your friends the opportunity to focus on friendship with activities that are more fun with a group than being solo.
