March 22, 2021Quick & Beautiful Interior Design Changes
Everyone enjoyed our blog so much last month we decided to continue with some wonderful interior design changes that can happen quickly and beautify your home at the same time. All of us have been spending more time indoors since COVID-19 and making some quick design changes not only brightens your surrounding but let your creative side shine!
Most of these interior design ideas can happen within minutes and others take a few days to accomplish. Most all of these interior design ideas are inexpensive and only a few are over $100 to accomplish. Above all else have fun with any of these projects you take on, they are meant to not only revitalize your home but will also help you renew, recharge and relax at the same time!
Total Kitchen Cabinet Upgrade
Depending on how many kitchen cabinets you have, this could range from an inexpensive design upgrade to one that is a little more costly. These are pewter pulls I bought locally from Ray’s Trading Post in Sebastopol.
I installed these pulls myself and it took a couple of hours and what a difference it made in how my kitchen looked! The pewter worked so well with the greyed green cabinets and really pulled the whole look together. All you need if you are switching out similar-sized cabinet pulls are a screwdriver or drill and a measuring tape. If you are installing cabinet pulls for the first time, I used not only a measuring tape but also a level to make sure the pulls, if there are two are a cabinet are even.
Lampshades Can Change the Mood & Look of a Room
Talk about a quick change when it comes to the look and mood of a room, try changing lampshades on your lamps, and see what an incredible difference it can make. In the picture above you see how they matched the color of the lampshade to the sofa color, which pulled the look together. In the photo below we switched out a tailored shade for one that was more fun and it changed the mood of the corner of the sunroom. The lampshade we chose also matched the wicker of our loveseat, which pulled the look together nicely.
Try A New Front Door Accent Color
Ok, officially this is an exterior design upgrade, but we thought we would include it because it is a quick and wonderful change you can make that has the ability to change the whole look and feel of your home. These purple doors grace the entry to my home, which is a craftsman 30’s look with cedar shingles and a greyed green trim.
The purple front doors just make the whole front friendly, inviting, and fun. I have lived here for over 18 years and I have recently bought teal paint for the front doors, which will also set off the color of the shingles nicely. It is time for a change from purple. But I have loved my purple doors so much, they show my personality and always welcome me, but I up for a change–teal here we come!
Try a Mural on Your Wall
Did you know they have stencils for walls that are like paint by number? You can create a beautiful mural on a wall even if you have no art experience or artistic talent. Murals work very well in bedrooms and bathrooms, but I have even seen them used in living rooms with a stunning effect.
Accent Pillows Can Make A Room
This photo is very New York, but I chose it so you could see how the teal pillows pulled together the whole look. The teal color matches the drapes, side chair, and other cushions in the room pulling together the entire look and making the rich brown hues pop. As another example, I chose a more California casual look and you will notice that the accent colors give a needed burst of color that changes the mood of the whole room.
Accent pillows compared to other decorating ideas are relatively inexpensive. Locally both Ross and Marshalls usually have a good selection to choose from at some very good prices. If you aren’t shopping in person these days, Amazon, Wayfair, Etsy, and Overstock provide some really good choices in accent pillows.
Wall Art, Shelves & Mirrors
Wall art, shelves, and mirrors all provide added interest to any room. Mirrors can make a small room or hallway expand and seem more spacious. Try buying an antique frame and then going to Michael’s to have them insert a mirror. If it is a stock-size frame you can install the mirror yourself. As you can see shelves in many rooms give added interest and here you see a montage of boxes used for shelving and adorned with green plants and art objects. So many ideas when it comes to shelving from antique boxes, like above to wall baker’s racks, and so many creative ideas that change the look and mood of a room quickly and easily.
